NAME
CHANGE

The hostel, formerly known as 'Broadford Youth Hostel' has had a name change.

It turns out the two words "Youth Hostel" are actually a registered trademark.
No, we didn't know either!

We received a legal letter explaining that
"'Youth Hostel'
is a registered trademark of International Youth Hostel Federation" and that the Scottish Youth Hostels Association "has the right to exclusive use of it in Scotland."

So we have a new roof, new floors, all brand new bed frames, new mattresses, entirely new lounge furnitre, new white goods...... AND NOW! A new name:

BAY VIEW
HOSTEL

MAKING IT RIGHT:

HOW CAN WE HELP?

I REQUIRE A YOUTH HOSTEL

Broadford no longer has a 'Youth Hostel' as this is a trademarked term

to be clear - you cannot stay in Broadford, in a Youth Hostel. To find a 'Youth 'Hostel' you need to go to the Scottish Youth Hostels Association (also known as Hostelling Scotland and SYHA) Their website is linked below:

I WANT A HOSTEL IN BROADFORD

I WANT TO STAY IN BROADFORD, in a HOSTEL

The new name for the hostel formerly known as 'Broadford Youth Hostel' is Bayview Hostel. It is NOT a 'Youth Hostel' Purchased in 2026 & fully refurbed from top to toe starting with a brand new roof - the building is there but no longer a 'Youth Hostel' So if you are looking for the hostel in Broadford... check out Bayview Hostel linked below:

Confused? We were too! Let us explain...

WHAT IS GOING ON?

Same building - New name : Bayview Hostel

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Don't worry - we've got you covered

GOT A BOOKING?
- DON't WORRY

We thought of it like buying a pub called The Royal Oak, or a hotel called
The Village-Name Hotel. We just assumed the name comes with the building.
For as long as we've been in Broadford this hostel has been here. We thought "Broadford" was the place name and "Youth Hostel" was simply the name of the building. We had no idea the two words were a protected trademark.
So you can imagine our surprise to receive a letter explaining all of this days after we put our website and booking systems live....
It turns out the two words "Youth Hostel" are actually a registered trademark. We didn't know this, and we want to be upfront that it was a completely innocent mistake.

Yes, absolutely. If you booked during March 2026, your booking is still valid. The building, (which has been fully refurbed top to toe since our purchase from the Scottish Youth Hostelling Association) the location, and the team are all the same. Only the name has changed. Please visit www.bayviewhostel.com where you can find all the details or use the details on that page to get in touch with any questions.

If you are looking for the Scottish Youth Hostels Association, who have many other hostels across Scotland (just not this one in Broadford anymore because we own it now but we can’t call it a youth hostel anymore – and we aren’t!), we are not afilaited with them in any way – and are purely signposting a way to find them if you are looking for them – you can find them here: https://www.hostellingscotland.org.uk/

We didn’t mean to use a name we weren’t allowed to, and if this has caused you any confusion at all we sincerely apologise. If you need a youth hostel anywhere in Scotland, (except Broadford) then the SYA are your people for that!
